The Tree! The Tree! You brought a smile to my face. I've been missing him and Blanche since they went north. So sad to realize I won't be chatting with him again soon. I love you all, my heart goes out to you.

Eddie was my favorite father-in-law of all time (he used to call me his favorite daughter in law, since I was the only one!) I would say he was one-of-a-kind if his son Kevin, my husband, wasn't actually turning into him a little more each day.
Eddie was hilarious, smart, curmudgeonly and yet warm, meticulous, and kind. The grandkids all adored Poppy Ed, and the more he turned into Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm the more delighted by him they were. To say he was thrifty is like saying Michael Jordan played basketball. I've never seen someone get more excited about a cheap box of granola bars!
As for the meticulous part, it served him well in terms of always having a beautifully maintained home and yard. Traveling with Eddie often meant things like waking up in a vacation rental to find a whiter, brighter plastic chair by the pool because he had been up early scrubbing it with bleach and a toothbrush.
Blanche and Ed have always been inspiring examples of how true Christian faith can be expressed in all the best possible ways: helping and caring for others, accepting all kinds of people, and living your life in a way that honors a higher power.
They've also been an example of a truly bonded pair of humans. They were inseparable until the end, and my heart aches for Blanche as she processes this.
We will all miss his jokes, his commentary on just about anything, his boundless energy for tasks, and so much more! We love you, Poppy Ed!
