Edward's obituary
Edward (Ed) John Shisslak, 76, passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2025, in Port Angeles, Washington.
He is survived by his three children, Zachary, Erik, and Sara Shisslak; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Raven, Athena, and Nils; his sister, Dr. Catherine Shisslak; ex-wife, the Honorable Ann Littrell (retired), daughter-in-law Estefania Cazares; son-in-law Matt Rayes; sisters-in-law Susan Furr and Elise Hesser; and brother-in-law Jessie Toles. He was the son of the late Edward John Shisslak and Eleanor L (Quebeck) Shisslak.
Ed graduated from Salpointe High School and went on to earn his degree from the University of Arizona. He dedicated 28 years of his life to education as a high school science teacher and wrestling coach at Douglas High School. His commitment to teaching and coaching left a lasting impact on own children's athletic achievement and generations of students and athletes.
In 2016, Ed fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving to Port Angeles, Washington—a place he fondly called “paradise.” Surrounded by the mountains and ocean he loved so deeply, he quickly built a close-knit community of friends. A passionate musician, Ed aka Bongo Bear played percussion in multiple bands and jamfests, finding joy in sharing music with others.
A celebration of life will be held in Port Angeles on the evening of May 8th at the Hub.
Ed’s memory will live on through the many lives he touched—as a father, grandfather, brother, teacher, coach, friend, and musician. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
