Edward's obituary
Poughkeepsie, NY – Edward John DiMuro (9/6/47 - 12/21/24)
Edward DiMuro, 77, a resident of the Hudson Valley since 1978, passed away at home on December 21, 2024, surrounded by family.
Ed was born in the Bronx, NY to the late John DiMuro and Rose Ann DiMuro (Nigro). He used to ride the subway solo to run errands (like picking up liverwurst for his dad) when he was only 6 years old. Ed was Valedictorian of his graduating class at Evander Childs High School in Bronx, NY (Class of 1965). He grew up playing baseball and was a great pitcher despite his extremely short fingers. He received a scholarship to Tufts University and graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He served in the United States Air Force from 1969-1972, achieving the rank of Captain. He married Nancy Figarella (now DiMuro) on September 28, 1969, and they drove each other crazy for over 50 years. They got along best when they were dancing together or going to concerts to hear live music. They had 3 “semi-beautiful daughters” together: Jessie, Gaby, & Diana.
Ed loved sports and was a die-hard NY Yankees fan, but he also loved music, movies, reading, doing the NY Times crossword puzzle, and food. He was a great improvisational cook. He was also a frequent tutor and editor of his kids’ homework and had incredibly high standards. Ed was a yeller but he was also a big softie who gave great hugs and secret handshakes. He had a great sense of humor and a biting wit. He and Nancy loved going to the beach, and spending time with their kids, and they loved all of their canine fur babies over the years: Pumpernickle, Zuzu, and Nile.
Ed is survived by his wife Nancy, their 3 children, and their partners: Jessica Sherman (DiMuro) and Jerry Sherman, Gabrielle DiMuro and Shin Inoue, and Diana DiMuro and Mike Burdge. He is also survived by his siblings: older sister Laura Monin (and husband Larry Monin), younger brother Dan DiMuro (and wife Edie DiMuro), and many nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a celebration of life gathering open to family and friends at the home of Nancy DiMuro - 2302 Eastdale South Avenue, Apt. 302, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603, on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Calling hours will be from 10 AM - 2 PM. All are welcome.
