Ed's obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Edward "Ed" Kramer, who departed from this life on December 24, 2023. Born on January 12, 1937, Ed leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and integrity. He was an easy-going, calm, and soft-spoken man, treating others as he wished to be treated, while always mindful not to utter words he could not retract.
Ed is survived by his adoring daughter, Leanne Kramer; his brother, Bill Kramer; his grandson, Zachary Roberts (Rachel); and his granddaughter, Hannah Roberts (Tycho Kerley). He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 60 years, Mildred (Millie) Kramer, to whom he was truly devoted. His daughter Kimberly (Kim) Roberts and brothers Mel and Lyle Kramer also preceded him in death.
In 1962, Ed married the love of his life, Mildred (Millie) Kramer. Together, they shared life's joys and challenges, creating a strong family bond that extends to their children and grandchildren. Ed's love for his family was paralleled only by his love for art. From European or farm sceneries to abstract art, his appreciation for diverse artistic expressions was vast. His talent for painting with acrylics earned him numerous accolades, including winning ribbons at the Dakota Masterworks Art Shows in Sioux Falls, SD and various county and state fairs in Iowa. Between paintings, he constructed models of the farm implements he grew up around on the farm in Strawberry Point, IA.
He was proud to have served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961, spending much of that time in Europe, which is where he found inspiration for many of his paintings.
Ed had an enduring fondness for the Iowa State Cyclones. He was equally passionate about his favorite foods, which included oyster stew, chili, and chips and salsa. A lover of nature, one of his preferred spots was the Backbone State Park in northeast Iowa. He spent many of his teen years trapping fox and hunting pheasant on the family farm.
Ed Kramer's life was a testament to humility, grace, and dignity. His actions inspired people to strive to be better versions of themselves. He will forever be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering devotion to his wife, and the lasting impressions he made on those privileged enough to know him.
