Edward's obituary
Edward Dale Bass December 31, 1936 – February 28, 2025
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Dale Bass. He departed this life on February 28, 2025, at the age of 88. A longtime resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dale was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who touched the lives of many with his warmth and kindness.
Dale was born on December 31, 1936 and grew up with his siblings in Felt, Oklahoma. Having a birthday on New Year’s Eve, he always joked that he knew there would be a party wherever he went.
On April 20, 1958, Dale married the love of his life, JoAnn Cook, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage until her passing on December 23, 2023. Together, they built a beautiful family and a lifetime of memories. Their legacy will continue to live on through their children, grandchildren and their five great-granddaughters.
Dale is survived by his three children: Ed Bass (Vickie Bass) of Missoula, Montana, Gay Lynn Schick (Gale Schick) of Windsor, Colorado and Curtis Bass of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dale’s loving embrace also extended to his four grandchildren: Brittany Schick, Laura Sanchez (Pablo Sanchez), Kevin Bass (Soojung Lee) and Jared Schick (Ashley Schick); and his five cherished great-granddaughters: Jayden & Aubrey Schick, Daisy and Emily Sanchez, and Mila Bass.
As he journeyed into eternity, he reunited with his parents, Marion and Bertha Bass, as well as his many siblings; Norma, Sam, Leroy, Herb, Walter and Gladys. He is survived by his sister, Doris Smith.
Waiting for him was his beloved wife, JoAnn, who passed away in December 2023.
Dale dedicated over 30 years of his career as a lineman for Mountain Bell (now AT&T), where his hard work and reliability were widely respected. Outside of work, he had a passion for gardening and took pride in his bountiful gardens, filled with a variety of produce and beautiful apple and peach trees.
Known for his sense of humor and storytelling, Dale always had a joke or a one-liner ready to share. His ability to light up a room with laughter and his talent for weaving a good tale will be dearly missed. He was deeply devoted to his family, and once his grandchildren were old enough, he created unforgettable memories by hiding "treasures" in the Sandia Mountains for them to find—often accompanied by his vivid and entertaining stories.
Family and friends are invited to share their stories of a remarkable man whose legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will live on in the hearts of many.
In lieu of a memorial, we ask that those who knew him to continue to celebrate his long life and legacy by loving their family and treating all those who cross your path with kindness, and spreading laughter whenever you can in Dale’s memory.
