Edward's obituary

Edward William Auld, 80, moved to Manton, CA in July of 2021 with his wife Mary Grace Auld after building their dream home. Edward passed away suddenly at home on March 25, 2022.

Edward (also affectionately known as Ed, Eddie, and as Wardo by his sister) was born on July 27, 1941 to William Edward Auld and Blanche Catherine Auld (Trabucco) in San Francisco, CA. After Ed graduated from De Anza High School, Richmond, CA in 1959, he entered military service with the Army in July 1959 and was Honorably Discharged July 1962.

After returning from military service overseas, he worked for Standard Oil in Richmond, CA, Louis M. Martini Winery in St. Helena, CA, and the onion processing plant in Vacaville, CA. He then went to work for Rheem Manufacturing Company in Richmond, CA where he worked as a Machinist for 24 years until the plant closed. After the closure, Ed completed training to become an EKG/Echo Technician. He worked for Alameda County Hospitals (Fairmont Hospital and John George Psychiatric Hospital in San Leandro and Highland Hospital in Oakland) as an EKG Technician before retiring in 2011.

Ed was previously married to Vona Rae Hinch of El Cerrito, CA. They married May 9, 1964. Together they adopted Carlyn Kathleen Auld (Grocholski) before divorcing in June of 1972.

Later in 1972, Ed met Mary Grace Poipao at a divorce-recovery group at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Concord, CA. For their first date, chaperoned by their children, they attended a children’s play, “Alice in Wonderland.” Ed and Mary were joined in marriage on August 4, 1973. Ed then became step-father to Mary’s son, David Joseph Rice. Ed and Mary lived in their home in Walnut Creek, CA for nearly 48 years before moving to Manton, CA in 2021.

In 2011, Ed retired and spent his time gardening - including building water efficient drip systems, experimenting with solar and electronics, tinkering and rebuilding things, riding his lawnmower, and boating. In 2017, Ed and Mary purchased a property in Manton, CA where they began building their dream home together. He had a wonderful, dry sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes on co-workers, friends, and family.

Ed was predeceased by his parents William Edward Auld and Blanche Catherine Auld (Trabucco), niece De Anna Lynn Johnson, and step-son David Joseph Rice. He leaves behind his wife, Mary Grace Auld, his daughter Carlyn Kathleen Grocholski (Auld), her husband Mark Edmund Grocholski, his grandson, Zephram Isaac Grocholski, brother Kenneth John Auld and his wife Patricia Filice Auld, sister Ginger Dimpel (Auld) and husband Jerry Dimpel. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Viewing and Rosary will be held at Allen and Dahl Funeral Chapel in Palo Cedro. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Redding, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) This was an organization that the family has and will continue to support.
