Edward Alan Aikin, beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, in his hometown of Palm Springs, CA. Born on October 7, 1948, in Palm Springs, Edward led a full and accomplished life, touching the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Edward's journey began in Palm Springs, where he spent his childhood with his brothers Jay and Don and his sister Joy. They grew up living in the Araby Cove area of Palm Springs, playing in the mountains and hills around their home, finding many areas for adventure and exploration. As an older teen living in a small town, Lanny and his brother Don both had custom motorcycles. All the brothers were deeply into the rock music of the mid-60s. He graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from California State University San Bernardino, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to education and personal growth.
Edward was a man of many talents and passions. Pottery, woodworking, sailing, hang gliding, fishing, off-roading, and hiking were just some of his hobbies. He worked as a teacher, sharing his knowledge and inspiring countless students. He also found satisfaction in his work as a plumber and craftsman, and he ran a successful pool cleaning business. His diverse career paths reflected his versatility, work ethic, and dedication to providing for his family.
A very talented builder, Edward expanded his home as his family grew, adding two additional bedrooms, a sunroom, a kitchen and living room expansion, and even a two-car garage. His craftsmanship and dedication to his family were evident in every project he undertook.
Outside of his professional life, Edward, affectionately known as Lanny by many, was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping and sailing. He was a gifted craftsman, spending countless hours creating beautiful pieces of pottery and engaging in various fine arts. His creative spirit was matched only by his generosity and kindness. Edward was always ready with a smile and willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, making everyone around him feel special and appreciated.
Edward is survived by his loving sons, Scott Aikin and Sean Aikin, who will forever cherish the memories of their father's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support. He is also survived by his brother, Don Aikin, his sister, Joy Cordor and 4 grandchildren. Edward's legacy of kindness, generosity, and joy will continue to live on through his family and friends.
