Edith's obituary
In a testament to her strength, Edith Thompson passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, at the age of 103. In her many years of living, which began as the youngest of ten children on a farm in Iowa, she experienced great adventures. Alongside her husband of over 60 years, Horace (Tommy) Thompson, she raised three children in Lakewood, Colorado. Together, they lived in Maryland; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Leadville, Lakewood and Berthod, Colorado. They also traveled the world, visiting Berlin behind the Iron Curtain, Nepal, China, Japan, across South America (including the Galapagos Islands), Egypt and Israel. She and Tommy shared their love of nature with their children, taking them skiing up Berthod Pass and summiting mountains in Colorado, Mexico, and Nepal. An avid seamstress, gardener, and reader, she was always with her cross-stiching or a book, and delighted in her time with family.
The technological and societal changes that Edith witnessed in her life were vast. She spoke of her experiences of teaching in a one-room schoolhouse, taking care of livestock on the family farm, working as a telephone operator and later a nurse, living through the Depression, World War II, and eating lots of interesting cuisine on those worldwide adventures with Tommy. She saw the development of the telephone, the automobile, the computer, fax machine, mobile phone, smartphone and now A.I. Yet, she never had WiFi, only watched baseball on television, and read the actual newspaper and paperback books.
She is survived by her three children, David, Susan and Carol, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
