Edith's obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Edith Hanskell, a beloved stepmother, grandmother, and friend. Born on November 18, 1938, she departed from this world on November 13, 2023, just days shy of her 85th birthday.
A graduate of the University of Montana, Edith held a B.A. in English and used her knack for words and storytelling in her many years as a dedicated volunteer at the National Museum of American Jewish History. She was predeceased by her loving spouse, Jeremy Hanskell.
Edith leaves behind a loving family who meant the world to her. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Larisa and her seven grandchildren; Tonnette, Gunnar, Guinevere, Greta, Ayana, Milan, and Harrison. She loved them dearly and often said her greatest accomplishment was raising Larisa and being a part of her grandchildren's lives.
Edith had a rich and varied life. Those who knew her well will remember her love for books such as The Fellowship of the Ring, and her fondness for The Beatles. She also enjoyed binge-watching Law & Order: SVU and held a special place in her heart for The Sound of Music.
She was a woman of simple pleasures, enjoying her favorite foods like Gęsi pipek and Latke, and savoring a cup of Earl Grey tea. Edith loved playing bridge with friends, swimming for exercise, and reading for enjoyment. She was a reserved person but was extremely witty, a trait that endeared her to many.
Edith was a pillar of strength and a beacon of wisdom for her family and friends. Her loss will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate to know her. Edith's life serves as a beautiful example of resilience, love, and compassion. She will be sorely missed by countless others.
