Dwight's obituary

It brings great sorrow to share that on August 21, 2024, in Longview, Texas, this world said final goodbyes to a truly remarkable artist. Dwight Bernard Mikkelsen (known by many as Foster Kinn) was born in Visalia, California on May 1, 1952. While deeply saddened by the loss of this wonderful human being, there is solace to be had that he left the world without pain or suffering, as he passed peacefully and poetically in his sleep.

Dwight is survived by his wife Rose, his children Khalin, Lacee, Jasmine, by extension Omar and Melissa, his siblings Claus and Jette, and his grandchildren Travis, Diego, Vienna, Ana and a fifth little one on the way. Beyond this, we know he will be missed by a wide network of family members, friends (and strangers alike), fellow artists and fellow riders.

Through his vivacious and adventurous life, Dwight found himself within the beauty of expression in music, poetry, photography and writing. He also found himself in the warm and fulfilling embrace of true love, fatherhood, and grand fatherhood. Finally, he found himself as a biker. He exuberantly explored and enjoyed the sense of ultimate freedom he found on the open road. True to his selfless nature, he ensured this joy was not experienced by him alone and, despite any hardships he may have experienced in life, he shared this escape with others through his writing and photography.

While we know there will be unavoidable grief, we encourage all to remember that Dwight would not want us to live our lives in sadness, as he wanted nothing more than to spread joy and laughter, whether it be to a close loved-one or a stranger at a gas station. In Dwight’s honor, we hope that all will enjoy your simple family traditions, strike up a conversation with a stranger, order some pie, or take a ride through a beautiful canyon or countryside. In those unavoidable moments, we hope all can take comfort in knowing that he lives on through his art, and through us.
