Mr. Dwane Zedekiah Sturkie, 77, of Columbia, SC, passed away unexpectedly on December 24, 2023.

Dwane was born on September 28, 1946, in Gaston, SC.  to Howard Legare and Pauline Dowd Sturkie. Dwane was a retired Engineer from the City of Columbia Fire Department.  He and his father also owned a construction company for many years. Dwane continued to operate the company after his father passed away and brought his sons into the family business.

Dwane enjoyed vacations at the beach with his family.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his brothers, Edward (Amy) Sturkie, Lamar (Annie Laura) Sturkie, Larry (Tonya) Sturkie. Also surviving are his children, Sandy (Ben) Gunter, Darryl Sturkie, Kevin (Bonnie) Sturkie, Hunter Sturkie, his grandchildren, Krystal (Rick) Roe, Jamison (Ashley) Pitts, Justin (Lauren) Pitts, Colt Gunter, Kayla Sturkie, and Braxton Sturkie, eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Dwane is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Stephen Sturkie.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 1:00 pm, followed by the service at 2:00pm at Thomson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Interment will follow at 3:00pm.
