Duk Rae Lee passed away on September 5, 2022 in Aiea, Hawaii, at the age of 97.  Born in Seoul, Korea on February 10, 1926, she was a survivor of the Japanese occupation of Korea, and of the Korean War which ended in 1953.  She came to the United States in 1977.  She was married well over 60 years to Kwang Soo Lee (born 1915) who passed away in 2007 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  They had 5 sons and 2 daughters.  

Mrs. Lee was Halmoni (Grandma in Korean) to many.  She loved making kimchee, mandoo, and other Korean dishes.  She travelled during various times of her life back to Seoul, to Japan, and to the US mainland.  She had a zest for life and was very independent.

She is survived by her children, Byung Kyu Lee, Pyong Ok Lee, Byung Guk Lee, Byung Sun Lee, Byung Hun Lee,  all of Oahu, and by Byung Chin Lee, now stationed in Okinawa, Japan (retired US military).  Her grandchildren are Lee Ann Grunenberg, Donna Barnhart, Kevin Lee, Giyan Lee, Bryan Lee, Chris Lee, Rex Yamaguchi, Ryan Lee, Richard Lee, and Melissa Lee.  She also has numerous great-grandchildren including Solomon Lee Grunenberg, Kasey and Keila Lee,  Noah and Yubi Lee, and Madison Lee.  She will be missed.
