Driggs's obituary

Driggs Manley Jessup, 67, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, due to complications from Covid.

Driggs was born to Dean and Ethel Jessup on February 14,1954, in Ontario, Oregon. He was the first boy and second in line of six children. The family moved to Midvale, Idaho when Driggs was in 2nd grade and started a small cattle ranch. The farm was titled the J5 Ranch and it was home to many ranch hands over the years and is now a place that his children and grandchildren cherish.

Driggs was greatly gifted with athleticism. He loved to play and share his stories of his high school sports days at Midvale High in which he played football, baseball, and basketball. For college, he attended Multnomah Bible College in Portland, Oregon to study for ministry and continue playing basketball collegiately. This is also where he met the love of his life, Patricia Plunkett. They got married August 17,1974 in Felton, California and stayed in the Portland area for several years during which time they were blessed with their 3 daughters, Corrie, Chelsey, and Calley. Driggs was ordained as a pastor in the mid 80’s and was the associate pastor of a church in Battle Ground, WA. In 1986, he moved his family home to Idaho after he accepted the Pastorate at Cambridge Bible Church. Soon after the move to Idaho their family was also blessed with their 2 sons, Brody and Brock.

Throughout his life, Driggs was also an entrepreneur, motivational speaker, coach, and a natural born evangelist. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandfather (Papa), uncle, brother and friend. His kids feel so blessed by the level of involvement he dedicated to each one of their lives in their multiple activities such as: horse 4H, rodeo, and numerous sports. He absolutely loved talking about his children and grandchildren to anyone he encountered. He also loved his sons-in-law and daughter-in-law as though they were his own. He wholeheartedly enjoyed having all his kids and grandkids all located in the same town and he loved all the family get togethers for holidays, birthdays, camping together, sporting events, and attending church together.

For the past several years, he also devoted his time and energy to the students and faculty of Columbia High School. He walked those halls every day trying to lift student’s spirits and to provide fatherly guidance. He was adored by thousands of students, all of whom are now speaking out about the love and care he had for them.

Driggs is survived by his wife Patty Jessup of 47 years, his daughters Corrie Pomeroy (husband, Tim), Chelsey Hellwege (husband, Josh), Calley Riste (husband, Tyler), and son Brock Jessup (wife Jenny), and 5 siblings: Jeanne, Curt, Jill, Janalee and Jody. He deeply loved all 10 of his grandchildren, RayLee, Kyler, Bella, Cecily, Gracie, Wyatt, Weston, Celia, Lane and Oakley.

Driggs is preceded in death by his oldest son, Brody Driggs Jessup, and his parents Dean and Ethel Jessup.

Driggs Jessup was a great man and was truly one of a kind. He was the heart of the Jessup family and a beacon of light for thousands of students at Columbia High School.

He never stopped sharing the gospel with those he came in to contact with. The word of God was forever imprinted on his soul and he was able to transfer that love and kindness to others.

He will forever be missed.

In honor of Driggs, we should all strive to be the light of our community, to love and share compassion to those around us, just like he did through Christ Jesus.

John 8:12 - I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
