William's obituary
OBITUARY
William "Bill" Euler Kim, M.D., a brilliant mind and devoted dog lover, passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2025. He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Tayler Kim, Genevieve "Eve” Kim and 9-month-old Zoe Calliope Kim, as well as his partner of 3 years, Maria Workman, with whom he shared a home in Wyndmoor, PA.
Born in Pittsburgh to Drs. Soh Ryang ("Theresa") and Chang Don (“Don”) Kim, Bill grew up in the Fox Chapel neighborhood of Pittsburgh alongside his sister Catherine and late brother Lawrence, who tragically perished on 9/11. From a young age, Bill's extraordinary intellect shone through. At just five years old, he learned of his namesake, the renowned mathematician Leonhard Euler, and ever since was captivated by the elegance of numbers. By sixth grade, he had accelerated to college-level math, astonishing both teachers and family. At 13, he even contributed to an article by Carnegie Mellon computer science professor Elaine Kant.
Graduating from Shady Side Academy as a National Merit Finalist, Bill began his studies at Brown University, where he majored in electrical engineering. His talents caught the attention of Microsoft, who recruited him to their R&D group in Redmond, WA, where he thrived as a software developer, and earned his pilot license.
Demonstrating his signature resilience, Bill beat a grim six-month cancer prognosis and went on to welcome his first daughter, Tayler, with then-wife Kelly Harper.
Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Bill returned to Brown to pursue higher education. There, he met his second wife, Eileen Vote, with whom he had his second daughter, Eve. The family resided in Boston until Bill's move to PA to pursue child psychiatry.
Bill was devoted to his family and close friends, and a fierce advocate for them. He enjoyed exploring Philadelphia's restaurants, often sharing his culinary knowledge. An outdoor enthusiast, Bill loved baking, long bike rides, hiking, and dancing with his dog Coco. At home, he tackled various projects, from fixing appliances to building a chicken coop and splitting firewood.
As a deeply committed pediatric psychiatrist, Bill touched countless lives and he was cherished by patients and colleagues alike for his meticulous and compassionate care. May his legacy of curiosity, resilience, and love live on through all who knew him. Bill's passion for learning, his exhaustive expertise, his dedication to his family and his love for his faithful canine companions will forever remain an inspiration.
