My mom, Pearlie Gates and momma Wanda Nelson were best friends when I was a young girl.  I remember those days when they had a social club they named  "Terrific Dots" and they seemed to have real good times.  After parties they would often bring home treats from "Chicken In The Box" for me and my younger brother, Calvin; and older sister, Ruthie.  As I became a teen and learned to type pretty well, Mom Nelson would let me help her with some of her paperwork as she planned many cosmetology events. My Mom worked right along with her as one of the vice presidents, and a most loyal friend.  When my mom, Pearl, passed away in 2007, Mom Nelson delivered a proclamation in her honor to Watkins Brothers Funeral Chapels.  Mom Nelson and I unexpectedly met up again  around 2007. We  worked together on the Obama  Campaign and together celebrated the Obama Campaign victory at Kansas City's historic Midland Theater. Later that year, thanks to Mrs Annetta Vertreese, we reconnected again at a Black History Month event children's play at New Vision Christian Church.  I was amazed at the talent of those children, as well as everything  and everyone engaged in it.  So now, in closing, I give so much love to  Mom Nelson and Sister Vertreesee, and our heavenly Father as I had prayed for a new church home for over 2 years, and I have been a proud member of that same church ever since.  When I first  learned of Mom Nelson's passing, the gratitude I felt pushed the sadness aside as I thanked God for every blessing and connection He arranged, and every memory I can now cherish for the rest of my life.
My condolences to Wanda's family. I first met Wanda when [ describe how you know each other ] and we would often [ include common activities together ].
Aunt Wanda was my mom’s best friend, sorority line sister and maid of honor. I loved her vibrancy and generous laughter. And it was Aunt Wanda who taught me how to embrace my feminity. I’ll miss her direct honesty, holding you accountable, and loving you genuinely.

To Dr. Wanda J Nelson, you will be missed, I thank FatherGod for putting you on the road of my completion of my Degree in Education in The NBCL , a mentor and also a friend. To the family I pray for strength during these difficult times. To God be the glory.
Dr. Nelson was such an  inspiration to the state of Virginia  in which I was president  at the time. I will never forget the conversations we had before and after her presidential career with the National Beauty Culturist League  Inc. My only desire was to have her to return to the NBCL and get the recognition she deserved after her rein. To God be the GLORY for all he allowed her to do and the  impact she left on many of us will never be forgotten  (Dr. A. Laverne Canada , 3rd vice president  of NBCL)

Dr. Wanda J. Nelson has been my Soror, Sister, and Friend for the past forty-five years or more. We were State Presidents together, Sorors together, National Officers together, Friends always together, we traveled together, lived in the state of Nevada together, enjoyed each other's company together, fussed together, cooked together, laughed together, and more than anything shared the love of Jesus together! We had a good old friendship that started at the National Beauty Culturists League Inc. and carried one long beyond that. Dr. Nelson was one in a million. She had such a giving heart and such a love for people! Dr. loved her family and always spoke of Earl Sr. Stevie, Kiara, and Earl Jr., as well as her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews! When she moved back to Kingfisher, OK she was excited about being back home and told stories of her youth!  I will truly miss my Soror, my friend, my buddy my Jeanie Weanie, but I know she is with the Lord and that one day we will meet again!!!  — with Beverly Sewell-Ramey, Dr. Wanda Nelson and Sharon Maynard

My family and I were fortunate to have met Dr. Wanda Nelson over 30 years ago. Dr. Nelson would always welcome us with so much love, whenever we would meet up. I loved and felt honored she thought of us as family. She was a beautiful lady inside and out, I will truly miss seeing her.

Our deepest condolences to all of her loved ones.

Rest in Paradise Dr. Nelson. 🙏🏾❤️

Love, Jo, Andrej, & Maya

I first met Mrs Nelson 7 years ago during a time when her late son Steven Nelson aka Truck came to Las Vegas to visit her. She was a woman full of energy and laughter we connected immediately. She affectionately always called me the lady that can cook because of the catfish and spaghetti dinner I had prepared and shared with her during his visit . My condolences to the entire Nelson family for the loss of your dear matriarch. There is no doubt in my mind that Mrs. Nelson has left loving impressions on all the  lives and people whom encounter her during her earthly journey.

Continued prayer and blessings
