I am a current radiology resident at the University of Maryland and knew Dr. P for only a few years, yet he has left an outsized impact on me. He reminded me of my grandmother, who also grew up Jewish in Brooklyn, NY and was a guidance counselor in her career. Like her, Dr. P was extroverted, full of personality and opinions, genuinely interested in people’s stories, a mentor to many, generous, and devoted. He had a special and effortless way of making you feel seen, valued, and welcomed. As a second year resident reading out chest x-rays and chest CTs with him in the reading room, he once told me “See? You can do this.” It was a very impactful message at a moment in my training when I was feeling less than confident on call. As my grandmother would have said, Dr. P was a true mensch, a good, caring, admirable person. His memory is a blessing.
Bob was a great teacher, a great friend and my second father. His warm touch and sense of humour had no rivals. I loved him as I love my father and I will remember every minute I spent with him. His family received me as a relative. I’ll never forget Karen and the boys. There will never be a better teacher. You live in my heart forever.
Bob was an incredible mentor and inspiration to me during my time at the Brigham.  He was a larger than life figure and lit up the reading room.  My condolence on your loss.
Fond memories of Bob from growing up alongside Eric. Been thinking of him regularly. Love to the fam!

Dr. Pugatch sharing his passion with trainees from all levels and backgrounds.
We have lost a good friend and colleague at University of Maryland.  Bob will be missed for his knowledge, education, caring, great sense of humor, and outlook on life.

My warm condolences to Dr Pugatch family!

Dr Pugatch  was such a wonderful human being and mentor to me!

I really will miss him forever!

Our thoughts and prayers for Bob's family. He was an incredible person and mentor.  I was fortunate to be his Thoracic Fellow at the Brigham where I learned so much and had an incredible experience. I cherish his support and freindship throughout my career and will really miss him.

I saw Dr P for the first time in 2003 and 2004 again when I was a resident in Harbor hospital doing an away rotation in thoracic radiology. I was trying to get into radiology then

When radiology was not looking promising Dr P sat me down and told me to think about what part of medicine did I like and he steeered me towards considering pulmonary critical care medicine.

I am a pulmonologist today simply because he had faith in me and encouraged me all throughout my career so far. I learnt a lot of thoracic radiology from him. He was a phenomenal human, mentor , radiologist and exceptional educator.  I am still in shock as I talked to him this past weekend.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Dr P was larger than life and he has left a gaping hole in this world.
