Doug's obituary
We would love to celebrate the life of Dr. Douglas Wood, Sr., a treasured grandfather, father, brother, and devoted Optometric Physician. Born on July 10, 1950, his kind, funny, generous, and patient nature illuminated all his interactions, leaving a significant impact on everyone he encountered.
Doug is survived by Neta Wood and their beloved children, Stephanie (Elliott) and Douglas (April), four grandchildren, and his brother, Stephen (Cindy) Wood. Doug is preceded in death by his parents Starling Witt Wood, Jr and Jacqueline Murphy Wood.
Dr. Wood practiced optometry in Jonesboro for 40 years. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. As a spirited fan of the Arkansas State Red Wolves and the New York Yankees, he incorporated the same enthusiasm and vigor into all aspects of his life.
His appreciation for life was evident in his wide array of interests and hobbies. He was an avid fan of The Beatles, was always ready for a good cheeseburger, and enjoyed an exciting game of poker. He loved playing basketball and ping-pong with his life-long friend, Louis. He found comfort and peace on the beach, working in his yard, and his love for sports and cars were well-known among his family and friends.
Throughout his life, Doug wholeheartedly supported the protection and conservation of sea turtles. As a testament to his affinity for them, we encourage donations to the National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation in lieu of flowers. Donations can be made at https://everloved.com/life-of….
Doug’s presence and influence will be fervently missed, but his spirit lives on in his unforgettable humor, his distinguished contributions to optometry, and his unwavering devotion to his loved ones.
