Some of my greatest memories of Doug are with my Dad. Doug was a great scoutmaster. The activities that were my favorite were the trips to Chelsea and Bad Axe Michigan. They were special for the fact I was with my Dad and my friend Kevin was with his Dad Doug. We snuck out of our cabins to watch our Dads play cards. Also we would run around at night raiding other cabins and thinking we were getting away with something. I remember my Dad talking on the phone and laughing so loudly we couldn’t hear the TV. As always it was Doug Dad was talking to. As we grew older I remember Doug talking my Dad and I into going to Muskegon to try doing the luge. So off we went - me and a buddy of mine and Doug and my Dad. We laughed all the way to Muskegon. But things quieted down when we saw the height of the run and all the stairs we had to climb. We had to sign several insurance wavers which started me thinking how the heck did Doug talk us into this? Well we went down the run and we banged into the wall back and forth all the way down. After about three runs we were exhausted and beat up but had the best time. We went out to dinner afterward and we all were bleeding from our elbows and our knees were sore but we didn’t care it was one of the best times. Later in life I appreciated so much the help Doug provided my Dad as he became ill. He would fix up my parents cottage in Evart and winterize the place at the end of autumn. He will be missed.
"People may not remember what he said. People may not remember what he did. People will always remember how great Doug made them feel" "Doug, truly a special gift from GOD" "With great sadness and a heavy heart, happy trails Doug. Until we meet again." I Love you cuz
What a wonderful & fine man. His evervesance and humor was contagious. I’ve known him my whole life. He would put a smile on your face whenever he walked into a room. With his caring & generous heart he was always there to lend a hand when someone was in need. A true role model for me. As my dad’s best friend and best friend to our family Doug will truly be missed by us and all who knew him.
