Doug's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the Myers Family announces the sudden loss of their hero.

Douglas “Doug” Hilden Myers, left us far too soon at the age of 67, on Sunday August 20th 2023. With his family and friends by his side, Doug passed peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital. His family and friends held him in the highest regard and he was loved dearly. His passing leaves an indescribable void in our lives, but his memory will forever be etched in our hearts.

Throughout his life, Doug was known for his dedication and commitment to his family. Doug was a devoted father who stood by his sons, offering unwavering support in every endeavor they pursued throughout their lives. He took immense pride in the growth of his sons and considered them to be his greatest achievement. Doug was a source of strength and guidance, always offering sage advice and a listening ear.

Doug finally found his true love when he married Lorraine (nee Couture) in 2005 and effortlessly united his family with lifelong friends. They had a unique bond that allowed them to be their authentic selves and they supported each other unconditionally. Together they found the love and fulfillment they had always desired. Doug embraced his role as a bonus dad to Lorraine’s adult children with open arms and a loving heart. He treated them as his own, providing them with support, guidance and unconditional love.

Doug was affectionately known as Grandad/Papa by his numerous grandchildren. His quick wit and clever remarks brought joy and laughter into their lives. Whether it was a playful tease or a witty comeback, Grandad could always be counted on to bring a smile to their faces. His grandchildren adored him and cherished the special bond they shared.

Doug was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW 353), but he also took great pride in training his apprentices He recognized the importance of passing on his knowledge and expertise to the next generation of electricians. He instilled in them a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. Doug's passion for his craft and his dedication to training apprentices contributed to the overall professionalism and skill level of the electrical field. He was proud to contribute to the growth and development of the electrical industry.

In the early years of his career, Doug played a pivotal role in co-founding Myers Electric alongside his father and brother, John. Although Myers Electric only remained in business briefly after the passing of his father, Doug continued the legacy by sharing his knowledge and expertise with his sons, who became electricians themselves. Doug took immense pride in witnessing and supporting his son, Brent, carry on the family legacy by founding Gen3 Electrical, a company that pays tribute to the original family business.

In his spare time, Doug enjoyed visiting family, going to the racetrack, playing cards with family and friends, playing video games, watching hockey and snuggling his cats, Squeaky and Trouble.

Doug is survived by his wife Lorraine, his children, Brent (Tina) and Terry (Melanie), Ron, Michelle (Patrick) and Gil (Donna), his grandchildren, Skylar, Wade, Hudson, Nicole (Fernando), Michael, Joseph, Malia, Mike, Taylor, Austin, Dylan, Roman, Joshua (Angel), Sky and Gilbert, his great-granddaughters, Gabriella and Lulu, his sisters Loretta (Jim) and Marilee (Merv) and siblings-in-law Mel (Doug), Del (Shirley), Danny (Diane), nieces, Karyn (Brian), Amanda (Cody), Katie (John) and Vickie (Jason) and nephew James and many more nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents John and Marion, his brother John (survived by Mary Lou) and his sisters Maxine and Carol.
