Kelsey, 

Our  deepest condolences on Doug’s passing. But I hope there is some consolation in the knowledge that his energy and influence remains. 

When someone becomes a part of our lives, a part of our brain changes: a neural pathway is formed, dedicated to that person. Whenever that pathway is activated—through what we see, a laugh, or what we’re doing—we will always think about them. Thus, Doug is now, and forever will be a part of us, and we will, throughout our lives, think of him. 

This influence goes beyond the biological, and into the very fabric of the universe:  the law of conservation of energy, which states that energy is forever. It does not end. And because of this, not a bit of him is gone. That which made him what he was still remains.
