Douglas's obituary
Douglas "Doug" Andrew Danko was born on May 23, 1960 to Andrew "Andy" and Rita Danko. Doug passed away on December 20, 2024 in Aurora, CO after a long and tough battle with cancer. Doug was surrounded by his kids and ex-wife as he passed away at home. Doug is survived by his 5 sons, his daughter, his grandson, his ex-wife, his 3 brothers, his 3 sisters, and many more nieces and nephews.
Doug attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver, CO. In his youth, Doug was heavily involved in the motocross and drag racing scene in Colorado where he built lifelong friendships with many others. Doug became a successful entrepreneur and started Danko Tile & Marble. For over 40 years, Doug built strong relationships with builders, contractors, vendors and homeowners all throughout the Denver Metro and surrounding areas. He was very well known in the industry as being a perfectionist and standing by his work. Later in life, it wasn't hard to find Doug up at Blackhawk making friends with strangers and casino workers.
Doug's biggest pride and joy was his family. Doug shared six children with his ex-wife Susan: Brandon, Corey, Adam, Ben, and Jack and his only daughter, the youngest, Samantha. His number one goal in life was to ensure that his family was provided for and loved. Driving past their home on Himalaya Way, the hum of dirt bikes and the yard full of laughter was exemplary of the fact that Doug was always a kid at heart. He taught his children numerous life skills and, most importantly, passed down his goofy and sarcastic sense of humor. Those skills and sense of humor also carried down to his grandson, Miller. It was rare to have a conversation with Doug where he didn't bring up his grandson which is just a testament to the love he had for his entire family. Both Doug and Sue created a strong family that has weathered many ups and downs, but is still inseparable to this day.
Doug will always be remembered for his generosity, charisma, work ethic, and how deeply he cared for everyone around him. No matter what was wrong Doug was always there to help you with whatever you may need, and he would do it with that memorable smile that was always on his face. Even though he had a very rough battle towards the end of his life, his caregivers at the hospital and cancer center would constantly praise Doug for his ability to make everyone laugh and smile despite the pain he was going through. Like he has done for many others in his life, Doug will be remembered for the joy he brought to everyone he met. There are no words to describe the incredible impact that Doug had on our lives. He will be dearly missed.
