Douglas's obituary

Douglas Albrecht, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother peacefully passed away on March 27, 2024. His last moments were at home surrounded by his closest loved ones. Born on August 18,1954 in Painesville Ohio, Doug, as he was affectionally known, filled his 69 years with love, laughter, and a memorable legacy of strength and resilience.

Doug is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, whom he married in 1983. Together they raised a beautiful family, which includes their successful and compassionate children Erin and Justin, their precious granddaughter Ava, and their caring nephew Alex Hayes. Doug also leaves behind his sisters Ruth and Joyce, as well as his brothers Dan and Jon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Lloyd Albrecht, and four of his siblings.

After graduating class of 1973, from West Geauga High School in Chesterland, OH, Doug relocated to Colorado in 1979. From there he built a life framed by loyal family and long lasting friendships. Nothing in life gave Doug more joy than spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Ava who was the true light of his life. Only one thing came relatively close, which was Doug’s love for the great outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, shooting guns, or simply observing wildlife, he was happiest when under the open sky. He especially found peace sitting in the sunlight listening to the river flow at his mountain cabin.

Doug had an appetite for life which was reflected in his favorite foods that included a toasty meatball sub from the Garlic Knot, mussels in broth, and homemade spaghetti with meatballs. He relished an ice cold beer while watching his favorite team, the Denver Broncos. His passions in life became evident in how he spent his free time; whether watching a “spook show” of the horror genre, or the communal games he played, like shooting pool and dominoes, and last but not least, by his frequent trips to the local shooting range. Those who knew him well will remember his God-given talent of whistling along with all of his favorite songs.

Doug was as talkative as he was loving, and he was always ready to share a funny story, or be a source of endearing comfort. He was a champion of a fighter, repeatedly triumphing over all of life’s challenges with unwavering strength, positivity, and a smile that shown bright. Doug was nothing short of a living testament of the infinite strength of the human spirit. Despite enduring over 20 years of health complications and living with a LVAD for 9 years, Doug always showcased a positive attitude and a strong nature. He showed a never-ending desire to live another day. His indomitable spirit was an inspiration for all that knew him.

Doug fought for a joyous life, savoring every moment with family and friends. Later in life, he grew to become a gentle, quiet man, that loved his family intensely. As we remember Doug, we celebrate a man whose life was a testament to the power of positivity, love, and resilience. His departure leaves a void that can never be filled. Yet, we find solace in knowing that he lived a fulfilled and meaningful life, led by love. Doug touched the lives of many and his spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him well. His genuine warmth, laughter, and love will forever be missed but never forgotten.

May you rest in peace, Doug.
