I knew Doug in high school - a dozen or so years ago? He was the nicest guy and always had a smile on his face. You couldn't be sad around Doug. My deepest condolences.

Doug was so full of life and laughter. He was a great friend and will be missed. Our prayers are with Julie and her family. My wife and I were blessed to work with Doug in New Orleans at Texaco.

Doug made everything more fun. I remember his crazy costumes he’d wear to parties in Rumbai, the longhorns mounted on his jeep, the feral pig roast in his yard. At work if you saw Doug in a meeting you knew there were going to be some laughs. Doug was just fun to be with. Our condolences to Julie and his family.

Sara and my heartfelt condolences to Julie and the Bowling family. I met Doug and Julie when we were students at Texas. Man, Doug’s life and personality were colorful. He was a scholar and a gentleman. A friendly, rugged individualist and a team player that you wanted on your team. Doug was what my Folks always called “good people”. To me Doug was a mountain guide (along with Julie), a river guide and a fellow amateur paleontologist. He was a capable and resourceful dude. He was one of the funniest people I knew, and he was always,
always himself. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing him tell a story and was fortunate enough to live a few stories with him, but I bet he told them better than I did. Prayers for peace and comfort for y’all, Bowlings.

Doug was totally unique - all the stories he told!- likely true, possibly tall - and so funny. Every time I think of him I am grinning - and I see him grinning too. I only knew Doug for a short time - starting with his expedition drive down from Newfoundland to Louisiana with dogs for company to start work in Covington. When I moved to Louisiana he was right there to lend a chair and bring a welcome bottle as I waited for furniture to show up. Doug was always ready to jump in and help anyone and go any distance. He was due a long adventure-filled retirement, it is heartbreaking that he didn't get it. I also appreciate meeting Julie and family - it was lovely to share our Rumbai experiences. When we were in Indonesia 2 years after Doug left, his place in Sawit was still known as the Bowling house. He won't be forgotten in any of the countries he worked.

I overlapped with Doug in Kuwait. I never worked directly with him as we were in separate groups, but that was where I first encountered his non-stop positivity. I don't think Doug ever went longer than 5 minutes between smiles or a laugh. This is the kind of person that we want with us as long as possible, so it's extra painful to find out that he left too soon.
To Julie and to Doug's children: I'm so sorry for your loss, I hope you are able to remember happy days in the past and happy days to come. Revelation 21:4

I felt very sad when I heard the news of Doug's passing. Doug was a very friendly P99/positive cowboy! Even though I did not spend significant time with him outside work, I got excellent life advice from him! I really enjoyed his conversation and several good stories! I'll always remember his positive mindset. I really enjoyed having Doug at my 50th birthday party! My sincere condolences to his family!

Julie and Doug’s Girls - So sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. We sat in our St. John’s office kitchen and shared our favourite stories of Doug. Doug created laughter everywhere he went. He was one of the good ones. May you find comfort in the love, life, and laughter you shared.
Sincerely,

Some news hits harder, and the face of a friend floods as tears flow. Man, he was a good guy back in the day and from what others have said, he only got better with age.
RIP Doug.
Deepest condolences to his family and close friends. Take care of yourselves.

Doug’s stories were legendary on the Rumbai campus when we arrived. Every funny story seemed to involve him in the thick of it. He brought joy and fun to everyone he met. I know those memories will live on. Sending you all so much love and hugs. So sorry for your loss.

I knew Doug best through his wife and children. The fact that he chose Julie Davis as his bride shows he had excellent discernment at a very young age. I also knew him through his children who have grown into the kind of adults parents wish for. Through Doug they saw most of the world in their youth few people see in a life time. He is gone much too soon. I wish he had more time to enjoy retirement. Grace, peace, and love to Julie, Sadie, Jud, Emily, and all his family.

Dear Julie,
I am stunned by this notice of Doug’s passing! I read and reread, hoping it was a Halloween prank (Doug was a prankster, after all!) You will be remembered in my prayers today and during the month of November especially! May you look forward to the resurrection of the dead and until then, may Doug rest in peace!

I am saddened by the loss of Doug blessing to all his family. Doug was truly one of us Texaco guys all the way!! He always had just enough levity to match the stress of the situation at the office… I am reminded of the Captain Dan story from his Indonesia days…
His smile and laughter will be missed by us all!!!
Blessings to family thank you for the memories and chance to share!!!

I remember Doug being the heart and soul of the Minas camp when Robbin and I first arrived in 2007. We felt blessed to have you as our host family.
Doug was an amazing father and devoted spouse and he always knew how to kick things up a notch while keeping everyone smiling.
He will be missed so much. God bless you and your family and may God welcome Doug with open arms as he welcomed us in Sumatra.

We’re shocked and sadened by the news of Doug’s passing. He had an amazing attitude towards life, which I admired, A great sense of humor, and very generous.
I recall during our time in Angola, we had tue “Friday cookouts”. He built AND WELDED a grill for the community for these social gatherings. I bet that grill is still there!!!
Thank you for the laughs and memories Doug. Rest in peace!

So sorry to hear of Doug’s passing, Julie. My heart goes out to you and your family. For the short time I was around Doug he was always upbeat and seemed to strive to enjoy life. I’ll forever remember him driving his hardtop and his ninja beaver antics.
