I am deeply sorry to hear about Aunt Dot’s passing. Your mom was a beautiful woman! As a little girl, living in St. Croix, I loved admiring her hair. She had the BEST HAIR!!! silky, long, and wavy 🥰. Your mother will be greatly missed for her warm-heartedness... We all are sorry for your loss.
Dorothy, known to me as Karen’s Mom, was one of the more interesting characters I’ve met. After Karen and I became friends back in North Carolina as a result of her being referred to my chiropractic practice many years ago, she would periodically bring her Mom in for care. Even then, Karen was very thoughtful and concerned for her Mom’s wellbeing. What kind of exercises can she do?, what should she be eating or not eating?, etc. At that time, Dorothy was listening to this advice and did follow mine and Dr. Karen’s advice and suggestions. Whenever we all went out to dinner, Dorothy was always so quiet, never saying much. I wondered if she liked me because she was so difficult to engage in conversation. Little did I suspect the feisty personality that truly came out over the last year or so!

Recently, when Dorothy was in a more stable condition, her sharp wit, keen memory, good humor and true voice emerged. The Mom who didn’t talk or reveal much, became more verbal and open. Karen still had to pick her words carefully sometimes, because Dorothy would get upset if you tried to pry too much or ask her to tell you something she already told you and if you didn’t do something right, watch out! Unfortunately, most of the staff at the nursing home were constantly doing things improperly which led to more accidents and dysfunction and eventual COVID-19. Hopefully, we can all be better advocates for our elderly now after seeing how poorly trained and prepared our nursing homes are and our entire healthcare system is for a pandemic. The good part is that it brought Karen and her Mom, Dorothy, into a much closer relationship than probably would have happened any other way. What a blessing that she was able to spend some time at Karen’s home and then the hospital away from the nursing home, in her final days. The hospital put Dorothy and Karen on Zoom for hours at a time so that they were able to maintain a connection throughout the last days of her life. It’s a tribute to Karen’s remarkable care that her Mom passed in a peaceful manner. She will be missed by many. May she Rest In Peace!
Karen, I just learned of your mother’s transition from life to rest. My heartfelt condolences to you and all who were dear in her heart. In this season of loss I encourage you to hold onto the memories that have been formed from you childhood through this day. Allow the music that speaks love, peace, comfort and strength to flood your spirit like a strong wind in a sailboat at sea. My thoughts and prayers are flowing with and for you as you journey through the tears, sadness and grief. Please hold on to this promise. Weeping, may last through the night, but joy will come in the morning. Much love and care. Stephen

I met your mother once many years ago Karen. I remember her kindness and grace. Your love and care for your mom reflects that same grace. Thank you for being an example how a daughter loves, by demonstrating unwavering commitment and care for your mother.
