Dorothy's obituary

Dorothy Faye Thames of Fairview, TX passed away peacefully on March 21, 2019 at the age of 85. She died of congestive heart failure following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Known as Faye to her friends, she handled her illness with sweetness, acceptance and grace. She thrived under the loving attention of her family and caretakers and she was a joy to everyone who knew her and cared for her. Faye Thames was born in 1933 and she attended Birmingham Southern University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics and Peabody Teaching College in Nashville where she received her Master of Arts Degree. In 1957 she accepted a position as a Mathematics Teacher at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, where she taught and worked in administration until 2002. Faye Thames served as Director of Developmental Studies for many years where she worked one on one with many students in the field of mathematics who were entering Lamar University. She was very active as a member of The Texas Association of College Teachers (TACT), serving on the Executive Board from 1989-1996, and acting as State President from 1993-1995. Faye Thames met her husband, Carl Thames, shortly after moving to Beaumont in 1957. They were married in 1958 until his death in 1998. Faye moved to the Dallas area to be closer to her children in 2004 and was lucky enough to find love a second time around with Dr. Graham Palmer, whom she married in 2009. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vata Kidd Hendrix and her father, Curtis Benjamin Hendrix. Faye is survived by her husband, Graham, and her children, Jeanine Thames, Jimmy Thames and John Thames as well as her grandson, Benjamin Glassman.
