Doris's obituary
Doris E. Slagle left this earth to be with her Savior on April 29, 2023. She had suffered a stroke which left her paralyzed on her left side in 2017. Complications from this caused her death. She enjoyed 97 years, most of them in Philadelphia, PA, where she was born. In high school, she was a revered basketball player, an equestrian, and part of a sought after a cappella group. She was a devoted wife and mother. To enable her daughter to go to college, she went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad, where she was employed until she retired. She enjoyed reading, travel, and music. She was also an active member of the Women's Guild of St. Paul's Reformed Episcopal Church, Oreland, PA.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Geesey, and husband, Scott; granddaughter, Elena Geesey; two great grandchildren, Zac and Lynda Byars; a nephew, M. James Porter, and two nieces, Susan Lucas and Margaret Sweeney. She is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Wesley Slagle; her sister, Margaret Porter; her brother, William Burgess; a nephew, Melvin Porter; and her parents, William and Margaret Burgess. She will be dearly missed.
