Doris's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doris Newsome-Buchanan, who left us on August 23, 2025. Born on July 12, 1952, Doris lived a life filled with warmth, kindness, unwavering faith, and a legacy of strength and family. Her spirit, illuminated by her love of gospel and her dedication to the wellbeing of those around her, will continue to light our paths.

Doris was a beacon of strength, courage and triumph, with her persistent fight against cancer being one of her greatest accomplishments. In her unforgettable, personal style, she taught us that people are blessed at different times, and to never give up, no matter the circumstances.

Devoted to her family and friends, Doris leaves behind her sons, Torrez Buchanan, & BJ Buchanan, 6 grandchildren, 2 sisters and daughter-in-law. Her favorite moments were those spent surrounded by her loved ones, often at her favorite local spot, the church, or enjoying BBQ and soul food. Her passion for her favorite sports team, the Chiefs, was only surpassed by her joy of reading and listening to the word.

Doris had a taste for the finer experiences in life; she could often be found savoring an Ice Caramel Coffee, crumbl shark gummy cookie, or engrossed in the pages of the Bible. Her favorite recreational activities were hanging out with her family, reflecting her strong bond and affection for her close-knit family.

Remembered for her preference for 'girlie' colors, Doris was an epitome of warmth, caring, and niceness. Her personality, just like the colors she loved, was vibrant and cheerful, bringing warmth and comfort to all who knew her.

In memory of Doris, a Celebration of Life will be held on September 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at 7780 W 119th St.  Food will be served!

To honor Doris's life and her remarkable fight against cancer you may donate.

Doris Newsome-Buchanan's legacy is that of strength, family, and perseverance. She taught us all to treasure each moment and love without reservation. As we navigate through our grief, we find solace in the lessons she imparted and the love she shared. Doris's memory lives on in each of us. She will be dearly missed.
