Doris's obituary

DORIS (nee GILSON) GUNDERSEN of South Elgin, IL, formerly of Palatine, IL, Des Plaines, IL, and Corpus Christi, TX passed away on February 21, 2018 at the age of 89.

Doris was born in Chicago, IL on April 28,1928 to the late Henry F. Gilson and Eloise (nee Pritchard) Gilson. She grew up on the North Side of Chicago and in Edison Park where she was a member of Edison Park Lutheran Church Luther League.
She attended Knox College, Galesburg, IL for one year where she studied Music Theory. An accomplished pianist, she enjoyed playing the piano at home for recreation and enjoyment and at Christmastime where we all gathered around the piano to sing carols.

Doris joined church choir and sang as an alto. Before her retirement years in Texas, she was a regular member at the Trinity Lutheran Church choir of Des Plaines, IL. She enjoyed music her entire life. She inherited a love of music and song from her parents, who came of age during the years before television became a common presence in the home.

Doris gave her life energy to her role as homemaker, wife and mother.

She loved being at family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who would enlighten her.

In recent years she was an active member at All Saints Lutheran Church, Palatine, IL where she cooked for PADS, sewed quilts and frequently helped with other activities.

Beloved wife of Glenn E. Gundersen for 69 years, loving mother of Ellen M., of Fox River Grove, IL, Keith L. and Diana (nee Vaia) Gundersen of St. Charles, IL, and Steven R. and Lori (nee Lopez) Gundersen of Corpus Christi, TX.

Proud grandmother of Mark (Rachel) Gundersen, Christopher (Lori) Gundersen and Andrea (née Gundersen) Tomasetti (Mike), all of Illinois, Dayna Rodriguez (nee Gundersen), Seth Gundersen and Lauren Gundersen all of Corpus Christi, Texas. Great Grandmother to 12 great grandchildren, in Illinois and Texas.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn E. Gundersen of Heritage Woods, South Elgin, IL, two first cousins, Margie and Jerome, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews from around the country.
Her loving and caring ways will be dearly missed by all.
