Doretha's obituary

In memory of the untimely passing of Doretha Ann Johnson (nee Turner), of Sacramento, California.

Doretha was born on January 2, 1951, in Woodland, California, Yolo County. On the 20th, July 2021 she was pronounced deceased and laid to rest on August 5, 2021. She was the 2nd child and first daughter of Mamie (nee Washington), and Morris Turner Jr. Originally from Tensas Parish, Louisiana, her parents later settled in Davis, California.     

 Doretha graduated from Davis High school in 1969. She was a lifeguard and recreational leader at the Davis Community center. Later, she attended American River College where she received her Associates Degree. During her college career, she met her first husband Mwachumu Katumbusi from Malawi and married in 1972. This union birthed two children, Fatima and Rahamanh Katumbusi. The marriage ended shortly although remained life-long friends. Then, she met war veteran Walter E. Johnson who became her second husband in 1988 this union produced four more children, Edward, Marcus, Lillian and Prechee Johnson. 

 Doretha enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Her favorite places to visit were Reno, Nevada, various places of the south and the beaches of San Diego. She enjoyed shopping, going on joy rides on hot summer days and hours talking on the phone. Doretha spoke of many memorable stories of attending the James Brown and Smokey Robinson concerts, picking walnuts in gunny sacks in Woodland with her childhood friend, to picking tomatoes with her brothers in Davis, CA. She also appeared in a Sacramento local children's show called, Captain Sacto. in the 1960s. During her early years she would design her own clothing, and worked varies jobs; from daycare, secretarial (administrative) until she found her love in healthcare.

She preceded in death by her parents; Morris Jr., and Mamie Turner (nee Washington), who are laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery, her son Marcus Edward Johnson, laid to rest at Camelia Cemetery in Sacramento, CA, her brothers; Gregory Leon Turner, Woodland, CA., and Aaron Turner, Fresno, CA. She has survived by her 5 children; Fatima and Rahamanh Katumbusi; Edward, Lillian and Prechee Johnson, 15 grandchildren; Jonam, Asante, Godiva, Onyeka, Zacharias, Patrick, Faith, Josiah, Rahamanh Jr., Rahsul, Hasanati, Rahfeeq, Madina, Siddiq, Salima, and one great-grand daughter, Caliyah.

Doretha will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
