Don's obituary

Don L Scribner, 77, fell asleep in death on March 13, 2022, at MUSC University Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.

On May 28, 1944, Don was born in Blytheville, Arkansas, to parents Franklin Pierce Scribner and Mary Belle (Lowder) Scribner. He was raised in Brown City, Michigan, with his nine brothers and two sisters.

Don met the love of his life, Carol, and the two were married in Clio, Michigan, on April 20, 1963. He affectionately referred to her as his “honey-la” and his “beautiful bride.” The two brought six beloved children into the world. The Scribner family lived in various cities in Michigan before moving to Jasper, Minnesota. After raising their children, Don and Carol relocated to Memphis, Tennessee. From there, they moved back to Clio, Michigan, then moved to Pipestone, Minnesota, before making Elloree, South Carolina, their home.

Don was industrious and well known as a hard worker in everything he did. He worked as a salesman for Mighty Auto Parts for many years and also worked in drywall and construction. There was not a task that he would turn down. Even if he did not know how to do something, he was willing to learn any skill to complete the job. Most importantly, he was known in the community as a full-time minister. He also used his knowledge of construction to work on hundreds of Kingdom Halls throughout the years.

Don’s children describe him as loving, spontaneous, loyal, energetic, happy, and kind. He was truly one of a kind. When asked how he was doing, Don’s reply was almost guaranteed to be, “Mighty fine, mighty fine.” He loved making others smile, especially his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.

Faith in his Creator was the most important part of Don’s life. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in September 1955. His joy was studying the Bible and encouraging others to serve Jehovah God. Several individuals with whom Don studied responded to the Bible’s message and were baptized. He served as a zealous full-time minister and elder in the Santee, South Carolina, congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses up to his death.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Scribner; five children, Beth (Steve) Toth, Deborah (Eric) Lohn, Jonathon (Keturah) Scribner, Melissa (Ryan) Tollefson, Carrie (David) Abajian; two siblings, Larry (Josephine) Scribner, Gloria (James) Tucker; seven grandchildren, Madison (Bryan) Cabrera, Harrison Toth, Mason Abajian, Landon Abajian, Lily Tollefson, Tytan Tollefson, Charlotte Abajian; as well as many other close family members and long-time friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Franklin Pierce Scribner and Mary Belle Lowder; son Donald Paul Scribner; as well as nine siblings.

On Saturday, March 26, 2022, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Eastern (1:00 pm Central) via Zoom and live-streamed on YouTube. For information on attending, please contact the family at donscribnermemorial@gmail.com.
