Donna grew up in Oakland, CA and enjoyed singing with her sister. Her family moved to Atlanta, GA when she was in high school, so her stepfather could start a shoe-selling business. Throughout high school, she enjoyed singing with her sister as part of a quartet. They even competed in a radio contest and won!
After high school graduation, she married her first husband, Mike Hein, and began a family. While raising her three children, she worked for a time at Delta, and was also an insurance secretary. She subsequently spent many years working as a legal secretary. During part of this time, she also took on the role of office manager.
She was an accomplished artist and painted the many pieces of art that hung in her home. Her artistic talent was undeniable, and she sold several of her paintings at the Piedmont Arts Festival many years ago. Always industrious and working with her hands, she often enjoyed sewing, re-upholstering furniture, and interior decorating.
She married her second husband, Gary, in 1978, and they found a lot of joy in their extended family, with a total of seven children between them. Family was always an important part of her life, and she relished planning large family gatherings. With Gary, she also enjoyed boating at Lake Lanier and relaxing at their lake-house in Doraville.
The family will hold a celebration of life in honor of Donna at River Forks Park, Pavilion 1, at Lake Lanier on Saturday, June 14 from 3 to 6 pm. The park's address is: 3500 Keith Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30504.
