Donn's obituary

Donn P. Slonim, 90, died at Primrose Assisted Living in Anderson, Indiana, with his wife Rose by his bedside, on Thursday, July 14 after a prolonged illness.

Donn was born in 1931 in Plainfield, New Jersey, graduating from Plainfield High School in 1949; Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1953; and Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1956. He practiced law for 27 years, primarily in Plainfield, New Jersey, and later in Bridgewater, New Jersey, followed by several years working with the New Jersey Division of Taxation.

Donn was an avid tennis player well into his 80's. He also enjoyed hiking, kayaking, bridge, and singing. After moving to Narragansett, Rhode Island, he belonged to two choruses, but did the bulk of his singing in the car, favoring songs from the Great American Songbook. Donn was known for his generosity, volunteering at nursing homes, leading hikes for the blind, and preparing taxes for the elderly. He was very giving and very funny.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose D. Slonim, son David and daughter-in-law Bonnie Slonim of Anderson, IN, and son Robert Slonim of Stewartsville, NJ; and four grandchildren: Jonathan Slonim, Daniel Slonim, Michael Slonim, and Mary Phipps. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Mimi Slonim, MD of Miami, FL, nephew Lloyd Slonim of Providence, RI, and niece Suzanne Slonim, MD of Dallas, TX.

Donn was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph J. Slonim and Gertrude Slonim, of Miami, FL, and his brother Ralph Slonim, MD of Miami, FL.
