Donald's obituary

Donald and Nancy Volhard were what you would expect from an old couple who has been together forever and done everything together. Donald enjoyed the outdoors and was outside ice fishing, hunting, growing ginseng or working on the farm, while Nancy worked in the kitchen, taking care of the kids and animals, and keeping everything in the house clean. She also loved to smoke cigarettes and gambling, some of my earliest memories were my Grandma sitting at her computer gambling with her ashtray next to her. My Grandpa did not smoke but did drink and that runs deep in my family as my Grandpa's father died from a drunk driving accident. I have never been told about this for my grandparents but I will have to eventually find out how everything works and the history of my family. When they had their last child their son “Richard Volhard” they already tried 4 times before a boy in the family but failed every time having almost all daughters but when the oldest was 18 they had another baby.

During the last few days of Nancy's life, she was surrounded by numerous family members who were supporting her in and out of the hospital in her final few weeks. It hurt everyone when she passed away, she always looked forward to spoiling her grandchildren and caring for them. One of her favorite traditions with one of her grandsons was making popcorn out of their popcorn machine they have had since 2000, grabbing some candy and soda, and watching scary movies. Something a younger child would be all about besides the scary movie but they both enjoyed it and would do this multiple times a week. During the last few days of Donald’s life were very sad, I remember going to see my Grandpa in the hospital and not wanting to be there because I didn’t realize how bad the situation was with his cancer. During his few days in the hospital for his skin cancer, it grew to his brain and died late in his hospital stay. Donald and his son were very close so when his son had his own son, Donald really wanted to treat and teach his grandson a lot of things. Donald loved bowling, ice fishing, and hunting with both his grandson and son.
