In the 12 years that I knew Don never once did he fail to tell me how much he loved his sons. Each and every time I saw him he told me how blessed he was to have his sons and that he was so proud to be their father. As a father his love was unconditional and as a father-in-law, he was always sweet and kind to me. If there is one word that summarizes this man it is Genuine – Don was a genuine human being who had a natural compassion toward those less fortunate. He was a funny person, had a goofy sense of humor and was above all else loved being a father.

Don you will be missed. <3
My late husband Johannes Messing and I got to know Don well when our children Tanja and Brian got engaged. We spent a few holidays together like Christmas Eve etc and he and Brian became part of our family. But life is not always fair and my husband passed away and Don's life changed due to a stroke. We stayed in touch and our children got married. Four years ago our grandchild Johannes was born. He was the joy in his life. Don will be missed by his family and everybody who got to know him throughout his life. Our condolences to Mike and Brian. We will be there for you.
I was so sorry to hear about Don's passing. He will always have a special place in my heart. I knew Don to be kind, funny, inciteful..a special man. We had many conversations over the years which I will treasure. Don and Pat were the first people I met after meeting my future husband. Our personalities clicked. They were friends not just relatives. Some memories...celebrating my husband's and my engagement where champagne sprayed all over Don and Pat's ceiling, the 4 of us going out for a spaghetti dinner and Don accidentally wiping his mouth with his tie instead of his napkin, my husband and Don having heated political debates with Pat and I just rolling our eyes. And many more memories. RIP Don!

It was a blessing to know Don as well as I did. He was truly a kind person. Also he was one of the funniest people I have ever known.

When dad was studying Muay Thai Kickboxing we would put on boxing gloves and spar sometimes. He taught me a lot about boxing, and we had a great time. He trained at the Degerberg Academy of Martial Arts for several years. He was also a student at the Tai Chi Tao Center for ten years.
