Donald's obituary

Donald E Outram, 76, passed away in Boise, Idaho on June 5, 2023 of natural causes. He is survived by his children, Glenn Outram (Beverly), Jessica Barrett (Toby) and Amanda Ames. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dane Outram, (residing in South Africa), Ariana Scales, Oliver Ames and Grayson Ames, all who reside in Boise, Idaho.

Don was born on March 17th 1947 in Whittington, Illinois to Doris Smith and Joe Outram. He was raised by his mother Doris and his stepfather Jim Bagby. He joined the US army on February 25th, 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1972. While in the army, he earned the National Defense Service medal, the Good Conduct medal and the Sharp Shooter Badge. After being discharged from the army, he joined his parents and his wife, Lynn, and his son, Glenn, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After he and his wife Lynn divorced, he met and married his second wife, Jennifer, and they together had 2 daughters, Jessica Outram and Amanda Outram.

Don went on to earn his bachelor's degree at the University of Albuquerque in 1982, completing the four year program in two years. Don excelled in real estate sales and banking. He had a long career working both in the private sector and for the U.S. Government and with the State of Idaho. He worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, traveling the country and helping to close troubled banks. He worked with the USDA Rural Development Farm and Food Relief program. He also worked with the Small Business Administration Disaster Relief program and the COVID Relief Loan program. He was the VA Benefits Coordinator for the State of Idaho before retiring in 2021 to live a good life and enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren in Boise, Idaho.

Don loved travel, good wine, decadent food, live music, and conversing with good friends on most any topic.  Especially when all of those things happened together.  He loved books, music, renovating his house(s), nice cars, and had a love-hate relationship with RV ownership.  He was a huge supporter of the arts, but especially adored supporting his friends in their artistic endeavors.  He curated quite an impressive collection, in all mediums, of their work collected over the decades of his life.  Don amassed a very fine wardrobe throughout the years, and never failed to impress when entering the room.  He was an incredible cook and often would create meals inspired by memories of treasured life moments.  He could make a prime rib that would change your life.

His children describe him as a man who was vivacious, charismatic, stern, orderly, a collector of things and memories, music lover, storyteller, lover of good food, plant lover, set in his ways and traveler. The people that he loved most of all were his family.  He loved gathering at his home with his kids and grandkids, cooking for the occasions, telling old stories, and absorbing the love all around.

There is no funeral service per his request but there will be a celebration of his life held on September 20, 2023 at the Barber Park Event Center at 6pm in Boise, Idaho.  His family welcomes all who knew him to join in his celebration and share your own memories. His wish was for everyone to enjoy life, good food and drink, and to have no tears.  He would want nothing more than for us all to be "just ducky".
