My mentor, my Father-figure, my Confidant..... what more can I say to do Justice to the life of Bro. Don.  He showed me and countless others how to live and be a devoted Disciple of Christ along with being a God-fearing humble Servant of the Lord. I will forever be grateful to him and his gracious wife - Sister Caroline for sharing this good man with so many.   My family has truly been touched by the kind deeds, sage advice, and funny stories that Don and Caroline shared with us over the years.  Even after we moved from Texas, we made sure to keep in contact with this awesome couple because they always lifted our spirits and made us laugh more times than we can count. Of the many acts of kindness that Bro. Don has performed selflessly, one that really stands out is when he came to visit me in the hospital right before my surgery at 5:50 am with that big grin and twinkle in his eyes to say that he would sit with Ada during my surgery so that she would not be left alone in the waiting room.  That is just one of the many kind and wonderful acts of kindness that Bro. Don was known for.  I always told him and Sis. Caroline that they are Guardian Angels on loan from Heaven to help shepherd us (they just laughed and said oh no brother)!  He will certainly be missed by many, but he has left us with marching orders to emulate and carry on the wisdom, caring, and kindness he so freely demonstrated to everyone he encountered!

Thank you, Brother Don, for believing in me and for your fervent prayers and encouragements.

With deepest sympathy, love, and prayers from your family and friends at First Baptist Church of Watauga.

Don and Caroline have always had a special place in our hearts. We will miss Don greatly. I count it a true blessing to have serve our Lord along side of Don, he was so kind, humble, and strong in his faith. I know we have served together over 40 years and I am thankful for that time. May God bless your family during this time in your life. We love you so much!

What a blessing Don has always been in my life!

We had alot of laughs over the years.  One of the funniest things that happened, was when we had a business trip to South Padre Island. Don, Doug W and I went on the beach riding 3-wheelers. We decide to race to see who the fastest was. As we were waiting for Doug to say go, Don and I were revving up the motors. Doug said go and Don and I let out on our clutches. Don and I both were flat on our backs holding on to the bars looking up at the blue sky. LOL!!!

Things that really have always impressed me about Don is his strong faith, his love for the Lord and his unconditional love for his family. Don was a man of high integrity. He was a great role model. A true friend.

Love you Don!!!

Bro. Hughes was the most soft spoken person. I can not remember one negative comment from him. He was always stopping by the my store when walking the mall. He would ask how I was doing. Heaven gained a very sweet soul! Praying for his family.
