Don's obituary
Don Faulds passed away on August 2nd, 2024, in Peoria Arizona.
Don was born in Akron Ohio on August 28th, 1927, to Margaret and George Faulds. Growing up Don spent a great deal of time in Pittsburg with his relatives and friends. In High School Don met and fell in love with Lois Shepler. In November of 1944 Don dropped out of high school and joined the Navy to fight for his country. Though the war ended before he arrived in Japan, he served bravely and was stationed in Nagasaki. After the war, he returned and married his true love Lois in Greenup Kentucky on November 23rd, 1947, and fathered four sons, Donald Jr, Roger, Michael and David.
Don loved all sports and games all the time. In the 1950s he was asked to join the Professional Bowler’s Associate at its inception but declined to provide for his family. Don also loved baseball and was a pitcher from his youth until a severely broken ankle sidelined him while he was in the Naval Reserves. Don loved casinos and playing cards. His favorite card game was Cribbage. At 92 he taught himself Pinochle, no small task. Don may not have invented trash talking, but he certainly mastered it!
Don and Lois moved to Arizona in 1996 and he loved Arizona, but Lois was homesick for Ohio, and they moved back in 2004. After Lois’ death in 2006, Don moved back to his beloved Arizona and found love again, marrying Donna Mathein at Shepherd of Valley Lutheran Church on October 10th, 2009.
Don loved all people. He could get the life history of a person while checking out at the grocery store. In his early 40s, on his way to buy cigarettes, he passed a burning home and rushed inside to rescue two people. The news reported him as an unidentified man in a white t-shirt, and it didn’t bother him at all. He didn’t need people to know it was him.
Don loved food, especially fried chicken and he was a huge fan of Dollar Menus.
Don retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a letter carrier and supervisor. After retirement he continued to work a variety of jobs until he was 78.
Don was preceded in death by his mother (Margaret), father (George), eldest son (Donald Jr.) and his wife (Lois).
Don was survived by his children Roger (Bernadette), Mike (Cherlyn) and David (Grace), five grandchildren (Kimberly, Shaun, Marisa, Chelsea and Nathan), five great grandchildren, his wife Donna and Donna’s daughter Kymber.
Don was loved by all.
