I can still hear Dad shouting “go number 2” at my soccer games. He would always show up unannounced so I never knew when we would be there, that is until I heard “go number 2!” Always put the biggest smile on my face.
Really miss spending time with Dad. Whether is was fishing down the congaree, hiking in Asheville, or just riding around in the truck together, I cherish every moment so much. One time I was staying with Dad in prosperity and he woke me up to watch the meteor shower outside at 3am. We posted up on the grass looking at the sky for about an hour and saw dozens of shooting stars. One of the coolest memories I’ve got.

Don and Scott hanging out with the Wilson and Burroughs family
I have countless memories that were so fun with my dad, for example sledding on the golf course in Asheville, the day we came home and he surprised us with a treehouse and a tree swing, he built zip lines for us, he took us kayaking down the river for hours on end and we would spend all of our time outdoors. He was such an amazing Dad and I’ll carry those moments with me when I have kids and we’ll go to Lake James or have a bonfire just like old times and I know my Dad will be there too. Can’t believe it’s been 5 years
I remember when I was a little girl Dad would take me down the road to visit one of my favorite horses. We named her cocklebur because she always had them stuck in her mane haha. It was so special because my dad and I shared a bond over the love of horses. We would go and feed her apples and it was such a special time.
The pain doesn’t go away but that means the love doesn’t either. Miss you Dad. I know you’re proud of us. We are proud of you

Congraree Dondee
I can't believe it has been a year. We loved you Don and always will.
RIP Don. Prayers for comfort for his kids. 🙏🏼🦋
I remember playing cowboys and indians as children, duck bogs at the swamp and searching for the swamp monster. I remember lake days in hickory, nc and a Christmas that we spent together. I remember your laughter and generous heart. Dear Cuz, you are greatly missed in this world. May you rest in peace.
Don was a wonderful, special, and very artistically talented student. He won numerous awards at the local, state, and national levels. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. (Art Teacher)

The original memorial had to be postponed because the venue cannot accommodate the people.
To The Burroughs Family: Don, Tom and I shared lots of fun times along with so many friends during our years at AC Flora. The twins took me on my first deer hunt. Needless to say, it was my last as I screamed and scared off the first deer they spotted! I’m fairly certain it took a long time before they let me live that one down. May you find some peace in all your memories of Don during this most difficult time. With love, thoughts and prayers, to all, Sabrina Greene FitzSimons and Family

Don was a great friend and a brother to me. We shared many great “River Therapy” journeys on the Congaree where he always had a smile on his face. Shared many afternoons in “The Swamp” watching the wood ducks fly and hunting dove as well as hanging out on the sandbar trying to catch an ole rockfish. He was always the happiest when he was on the river as it seemed that the river ran thru him. I was blessed to have such a great friend.

My heart goes out to his family and I pray that he is at peace and has a smile on his face once again.

May we all remember him for the joy that he brought to our lives and moments that we were blessed to share with him.
