My dear friend, you are gone but never forgotten.  I have shared so much fun time with you and Kellie.  Your laughter and sense of humor will be greatly missed by me and those who knew you best.  I will never forget when I got that dread-full call from Kellie, I cried so hard because even though I knew you were sick we never think of death.  Smokey you were such a great person with a huge personality.  I know that Kellie, your kids, grandkids, parents, sister and brother are hurting but I trust that they will be ok. May God keep you close always! Forever you friend in my heart!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you, It is never easy to find the correct words to express our feelings when there are no words that can fully capture the depth of what we are feeling!
We met the day we started working at the airport fire station together and you’ve been my brother ever since. Sincere condolences to his family and those who call him family. Rest easy Smokey 💜

I forever love Smokey’s sense of humor….He just always has to make everyone laugh out loud, with never ending belly aches. He just enjoyed making you feel better about, anything that was not making you happy or whatever was eating at you. My family and I will  forever miss his all out infectious laughter and his humongous smile! RIP my dear friend. I will never forget all the fun times we’ve shared.  Love Forever Always!💕💛

I hope and pray that we all can show the grace, dignity, and courage he showed during his long and arduous battle with cancer.   My family and I loved him - but God loved him more, so He called him from labor to reward: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. - Revelation 21:4

In a lifetime of relationships, perhaps only a handful of people are willing to be a discerner because it requires mutual vulnerability - that did not prevent Smokey from bringing the gift of love and friendship into the lives of everyone he met, befriended - family and friends. He knew how to speak the truth with love, and his smile was infectious. He knew how to exhort and rebuke with love and was the type of person who walks into your life when everyone else is walking out!

I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of my good friend Donald "Smokey" Charles I pray that God may comfort and sustain all in mourning.  James A. O'Bryan, Jr

Smokey is a great man. I never speak of my loved ones in past tense.  I know this pain all too well.

Here's a poem that has helped me. Love you all.

I’ve changed my address to Heaven,  I’ve crossed the Great Divide. I know there’s no sorrow or crying, Because I’ve reached the other side. I am so happy to be here, for the Lord Himself I see. I’ve changed my address to Heaven, That’s the place where you’ll find me.

I’ve changed my address to Heaven, I bid this world goodbye. I now live forever with Jesus in my new home in the sky. I have no burdens or heartaches and from tears I am now free. I’ve changed my address to Heaven, That’s the place to find me.

I’ve changed my address to Heaven, I’m safe forevermore. For the Lord built a mansion and my name is on the door. You can find us walking together, for where He is, I’ll always be. I’ve changed my address to Heaven, That’s the place you’ll find me.

To the family of Smokey, please accept our sincere condolences.  Know that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.  Out kitchen and plant stand will forever remind us of him.  We love you!  Ms. Esme, Raynette and Jaja
