Donald's obituary

DONALD LLOYD BURT

The graveside service for Donald Lloyd Burt, 83, of Gettysburg, SD, will be at the Mellette Cemetery in Mellette, SD on Saturday,  July 26th at 2 pm sharp. Plan on being there by 1:30.  Military honors will be provided by Mellette American Legion Post 151. Donald died Tuesday, July 22, at Missouri River Health Center in Gettysburg.

Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street, Aberdeen, SD.

Donald Lloyd Burt was born March 29, 1942, in Mellette, SD, the son of Lloyd and Doris (Gange) Burt.

He attended school and graduated from Warner High School.

After school he entered the United States Army on September 18, 1967 and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on April 22, 1969.

On October 11, 1980, he married Donna Koebernick (Larsen) in Aberdeen. They made their home in Warner, SD. After they retired, they lived in Piedmont and Gettysburg, SD.

Don worked as a car salesman and later owned his own body shop. He retired from 3-M after many years.

He cherished spending time with his family and extended family. Don loved to shoot the breeze, fishing, camping, boating, and watching old western movies. However, many of his favorite memories came from the annual South Dakota Pheasant hunt that many looked forward to especially his nephews.

Don was a very proud and active veteran. He was active in VFW, was a life member of DAV, was commander of the VA in Sturgis and was a member of the Commanders Club. He was recognized for putting wreaths on the graves at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis. Don was as member of the Mellette American Legion Post 151, the North American Hunting Club, and the North American Fishing Club. He and Donna spent much time with the veterans doing nursing home visits, decorating, helping with meals and parties.

Grateful for having shared Donald’s life are his wife Donna Burt, son Ty (Linette) Call, Oakes, ND, daughter Vicki (Monte Rohrbach) Koeberick, Rapid City, SD, six grandchildren: Nick, Whitney, Nora, Hannah, Aimsly and Chandler, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceding Donald in death are his parents, Lloyd and Doris Burt, brother John Burt, and his sister Bonnie Burt.

He holds a special place in many hearts. Our memories with him will be cherished forever. He is gone but never forgotten.
