I just want everyone to know one of Don best friends Joel Forman passed on June 23 2025. He also passed of breathing problems and had a feeding tube. They shared a spiritual journey as members of Builders of the Adytum. And were musicians together. I believe this connection has great significance as I believe they were both on a very intense spiritual journey. And are both working to heal the world.
Crossed paths with Don in New Paltz quite a few times in the 70's. Around '72 I bought a great little acoustic piano from Don that had been converted from a player piano in the past. It had a great sound and lighter build (including musical hardware) then a conventional upright. I don't remember if it had been "tacked" (tacks put into the felt hammers to give a very bright sound) or just had previously been so (then de-tacked) but it was Don who explained tacking to me at the time. He was selling to lighten his possessions, maybe to go "on the road" because I don't remember seeing him around a whole lot for a few years. Then in the mid/late 70s we were both music students at New Paltz College and possibly shared the same music therapy class. Around that time, I recall Don coming by my place to jam with my friends Tom Impola, Don Lipton, and myself. A nice guy for sure and always upbeat. I'm glad to know he had a very good life over these many years since those memorable times.
I always enjoyed our online conversations about music, horse racing or whatever. He was an incredibly nice man and I will truly miss him. The world just got a little less musical.
