Don Marvin Sturm was born on June 20, 1962, in Taylor, Texas, to Marvin and Iola (Schneider) Sturm. On May 4, 2024, he passed away surrounded by his loving family. Don leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, hard work and an indomitable spirit.

Raised on a farm in Hutto, Texas, Don learned the value of hard work early on. He tackled the duties and chores of farm life from chopping cotton to hauling hay. His journey continued through various jobs, from working at Krueger Dairy, bagging groceries at Schmidt’s Grocery Store, honing his skills in the butcher shop and mowing grass for the Hutto Lutheran Cemetery, where he will be memorialized. Don's passion for work was matched by his athleticism. A natural talent, he excelled in every sport offered at Hutto ISD. In addition, he embraced FFA (Future Farmers of America) during high school where he learned to raise and show pigs. In his free time, Don enjoyed cycling, weightlifting, gardening, and cleaning and polishing his cars. All would be done to the soundtrack of rock music and usually shirtless, in his effort to achieve his trademark bronze tan.

His pursuit of education led him to Concordia Lutheran College (CLC) in Austin, Texas where he not only distinguished himself on the basketball court but also earned the title of Mr. CLC. Summers were spent working for the State of Texas doing roadway maintenance and for the Williamson County Agricultural Extension Service inspecting cotton. Following graduation, Don embarked on a distinguished career spanning over two decades with Farmers Insurance. Dedicated to his career, this took him and his family all over the state of Texas, and to Idaho and Arkansas. Being transferred every few years, Don was able to meet and share his kind soul with others and left an unforgettable mark on all who knew him.

A devoted father to Preston and Lauren, Don could often be heard cheering from the sidelines of their various activities, regardless of the weather. Don played an integral role throughout their lives with his consistent daily presence. His warmth, infectious positivity, and nurturing nature fostered similar traits that are evident today in both Preston and Lauren. In addition, he molded a fierce loyalty and tender compassion for others. Wanting to see his family continue to grow, Don would often get excited at the idea of being a grandfather one day. He would have undoubtedly excelled at grandparenting and would have cherished every single moment of it. Though taken prematurely, his beautiful spirit will no doubt be seen in the lives of his future grandchildren.

Don was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease at 49 years old. Despite the trials of the disease, Don continued with his relentless resilience. He embraced life's curve balls, finding solace in adventure and physical activity. He leaned on the unwavering love and support of his family and enjoyed the simple pleasure of coffee or the occasional dark beer at the end of the day. Don’s family stood by him as caregivers, advocates, and sources of tenacious support. They savored every moment together and will cherish the memories that were created along the way. Don's resilience and love for life continue to inspire others. Don leaves behind a legacy of love, unyielding strength, and the importance of making every single moment count.

Don is predeceased by his father, Marvin Sturm. Survivors include his mother, Iola Sturm of Hutto, TX; his son Preston Sturm and his wife Kassie; his daughter Lauren Sturm; sister Tammy and her husband Mike Thompson; and brother Mike Sturm and his wife Colleen; his niece Hannah Sturm, and his nephew Samuel Sturm and his wife Megan, and their sons Levi and Nolan; and many extended family members.

A celebration of Don’s life will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Hutto Lutheran Church. Attire is business casual. Please feel free to wear a rock band (Metallica-AC/DC etc.), Corvette, or Coca-Cola shirt in memory of Don. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Hutto Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund or Alzheimer’s Texas are appreciated.

The family would especially like to thank Sage Oak of Denton for their unwavering love for Don and how they treated him with so much respect and dignity.
