We first met Don and Charlyn in September of 2018 at the wedding of their son Aaron to our daughter Cheryl. After meeting them both we were so pleased to have our daughter join their wonderful family.  Our hopes were that Aaron would be much like his dad Don and over the years have proved that he certain has followed in his Dad's footsteps and has proven to be a wonderful, loving husband to our daughter and a fantastic dad to our grandson Andrew and Ethan.

Because of Don's management expertise, Center Director Ken Szalai tasked him with forming Dryden's new Office of the Comptroller. Don brought a team of financial personnel to the "other" small NASA Center to see how Stennis' Office of the Comptroller operated. I was Stennis' Deputy Comptroller and hosted Don's team. He was a very friendly guy and made the visit an enjoyable one. When he found out I was from California, he encouraged me to apply for the comptroller and I was very fortunate to be selected. Don was my mentor and greatly helped form the new Office of the Comptroller. I am indebted to Don as formulating this new office was very, very hard plus I was learning how Dryden operated and getting to know the senior management and employees. I couldn't have done it without Don and we became very good friends. I was so very sad when I heard of Charlyn's passing and now to hear that Don is gone. I wish him peace and his family comfort.

To the family,

Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your beloved one.  As a NASA coworker it was a privilege to have worked with Mr Black. I had the opportunity to appreciate his working ethics, one of the highest degree of integrity and professionalism. It was the 50 th Year Dinner Gala committee I had the chance to first collaborate with Don. His encouragement allowed the acceptance of my creativity and design creation of the table Center pieces. An evening for DRYDEN NASA CENTER employees filled with great memories that lives on in many hearts and minds.

I always enjoyed Uncle Don and Aunt Charlyn’s visit to Wichita. He was always a jokester and Charlyn had the wisdom. They were very dear.

My sincere condolences to their families. God bless DeAnn (Tom Black’s step daughter)

I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Don through his position as a Trico Electric Cooperative board member. He was always a gentleman, very professional and interested in learning about the electric utility industry and the electric cooperative business model. My sympathies to his family and friends.
We talked on the phone for 2 hours just a few weeks ago, I'm shocked.  We were close friends for about two years in High School & college and I always admired his his grit and determination being pretty much on his own early in life.  God Bless!
