Dominick's obituary

Dominick "Nick" Buchko, 71, of Port St. Lucie, FL, passed away very suddenly on September 18, 2022 in Gainesville,  Florida after an almost 6 year long battle with cancer and taking what was just supposed to be a short trip to North Florida for more information on how sick he really was - he'd been in and out of remission and championing being the best grandpa, father, and husband he could be along the way. He truly was the strongest man alive until the very end.

Dominick was born on Saturday May 26th, 1951 to father George Buchko Sr.  and mother Mary Gerlando in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Somewhere during his younger, scrappy years in grade school Dominick met Elizabeth Colby at 11 years old, in passing, and they remembered each other years later at age 18. When Nick and Liz met the second time - the rest was history. They fell in love and started a family. Nicky loved all of his family. He was a good big brother and proud to support his mom and offer his home to her as she got older. Dominick was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to his than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was always checking in on his daughters and 7 grandkids! He was unendingly proud of Elizabeth, Carrie, Nicole, Kelly, Angelica, Brittany, Danny, Brandon, Anthony, Kierstin, and Harlie and always tried his best to support them. He did the same for his siblings Marian, George, Andrew, Elizabeth, Helen, and Barbara. Dominick was also an extremely passionate baseball, football, and Nascar fan. He could call up any NY Mets fact or figure even in his very last days with us. He could also often be found falling asleep with the TV on with the volume pretty much all the way up. Anyone who knew Dominick knew that he was the most loving brother, friend, father and husband one could ask for.

We had a lucky 71 years with Dominick and he will be deeply deeply missed and his memory is indelible and incredible. It will never go away. We will continue on his personal mission of being kind to people and animals, helping others when we can and sometimes even when we feel like we can't. Rest in peace sweet Nick. You were a good one, and we are thankful you are in pain no longer. With every heartbeat you will be with us.
