Dixie's obituary

Dixie Thompson, 81, of Satellite Beach, FL, passed away on August 14, 2022 after a long battle with a chronic illness. Dixie was born on May 28, 1941 to Granville and Helen Rion in Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from high school in 1959, she moved to Florida. She landed her first job at Pan American World Airways in Cocoa Beach. While working there, she met her husband, Jim Thompson, and they were wed in 1961. They went on to have 3 children, Robin, David, and Tina. She raised her children in Satellite Beach, worked at the Satellite Beach Recreation Department, and then later worked at Brevard Schools both in the high school guidance at West Shore and attendance at Satellite High School. Dixie made it her mission to improve the lives of others whether through working with high schools or volunteering for The Haven, Melbourne Regional NeoNatal Unit, and The Candlelighter's of Brevard. Dixie loved sports and volunteering in Satellite Beach. She coached all of her children in sports whether it was softball, cheerleading, T-ball or football. She was an integral part of the early growth of Satellite Beach. Dixie was a loving, caring and supportive mother, we will miss her greatly.

Dixie was predeceased by her granddaughter, Taylor, her husband, Jim, and her middle child, David. She is survived by daughters, Tina Sage and Robin Robb-Kraus. Additionally, she is survived by daughter-in-law, Julie Thompson, son-in-law, Craig Kraus, and 6 grandchildren: Brent Robb, Carissa Sage, Marlise Robb, Lyndzee Sage, Wade and Saige Thompson.

The family requests in lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Health First Hospice of Melbourne, Florida. There will be a Celebration of Life at United Methodist Church of Satellite Beach (450 Lee Ave, Satellite Beach, FL 32937) on September 11 at 3:00 p.m.
