**In Memory of Dick Howell: The Last American Outlaw**
On 8/25/24 at 12:30 am we lost one of the most remarkable men this world has ever known. Dick Howell, born on May 30, 1942, in Santa Maria, California, was not just a father, a brother, or a friend—he was a force of nature. The smartest man many of us have ever known, Dick proudly called himself "the last American outlaw," and in many ways, he truly was.
Dick was a leader, a teacher, and a mentor to countless people whose lives he touched. His talents knew no bounds: he was a race car driver with a need for speed, a masterful pipefitter, a dedicated biker, a shade tree mechanic who could fix anything, and even a real estate agent with a sharp eye for opportunity. But above all, he was a legendary figure—a respected American outlaw whose presence commanded respect and admiration.
Survived by his sister, Janice Howell, his daughter, Dixie Hulgan, his stepson, Richard Martin, his stepdaughter, Rhonda Needham, his granddaughter, Shaleen Bocanegra, his grandson Richard Preston Howell, and his Great-granddaughter Evelyn Bocanegra, Dick leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and rebellion. His family was not limited by blood; he had countless friends who were as close as kin, far too many to name, but each held a special place in his heart.
As we say goodbye to Dick, we celebrate a life lived on his own terms—a life that was wild, full, and deeply impactful. He will be forever missed, but his spirit will live on in the stories we tell, the lessons he taught, and the memories we cherish.
