From Betsy and Desmond Flanigan

I have so many good memories with Diane. We met when we worked at AT&T in Reston in the early 80’s. She worked the “help desk” and was the person we called if we had problems with our computers. Her job was to tell the callers to turn off the computer and disconnect it, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. Many people didn’t know how to turn them off . She was so funny explaining that process to them and even funnier describing the phone call afterwards.

She moved to Lake of the Woods in 2006 where Desmond and I had moved a few years earlier She kept complaining about all of the trees, the pollen, and the leaves. Then she would laugh at herself for not realizing the Lake of the Woods would have a lot of trees. Diane collected money for the blind on White Cane Day and walked right up to cars with a big smile and her bucket in hand. No one turned her down.

She did not like to waste time and liked to “get things done”, so in our book club she was known for choosing the books with the fewest pages.

She was so thrilled with the arrival of her granddaughter Lanie. And pleasantly surprised that she was born on my birthday, February 5. She was proud of Lanie and her accomplishments.

We will miss Diane and will remember the laughs and good times together

I remember how Auntie Di, as even all us grandchildren called her, was always so energetic and full of life. She also seemed more like an “auntie” to even us third generation kids because she was so funny and relatable. I remember being a kid and going to visit her in Virginia and it was always a treat. She always had something to say or something exciting going on. I’m grateful for having known her and feel I’ve learned things from her that I will value for the rest of my life. All my love to Adam and Laney!

I remember Auntie Di as being the life of the family gatherings and the entertainment. She never held back what she thought or felt and I admired that quality. But she always did it with SO much love and admiration for each of us. There was no question how much she enjoyed spending time with the family and it was never boring! I am very grateful to have had her in my life and for all the memories she gave me, not only with her, but with all of us together as a family. I’m sorry I can’t be there but know I’m thinking of all of you and her. Best, Devyn

From Maryann O'Donnell -

Hi Adam, I am so sorry to miss this memorial. I cherished morning coffee with Auntie Di in Julie's kitchen at her Shadow Hills. home She loved Julie's shepherds Roxanne & Chappy; she loved to talk about everything including world events. She loved you and Lainey & was so proud of you; she shared unforgettable Nana moments with Lainey & cracked us up in retelling stories. Auntie Di is 1 of a kind & I'll never forget her bright blue eyes & her smile. Enjoy being w everyone Love, Maryann
