Her second marriage, of more than forty years, was to Swiss-American John Lichtensteiger. During their life together, they enjoyed traveling around the world. Diane's search for spiritual understanding led her to the Church of Scientology. She was admired and respected for her commitment and skills as an instructor of the Church's educational methodology. She is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, her older sister Gail Martin Whigham, younger brother Winn F. Martin (Trisha), and her husband, John.

There will be a private family memorial graveside held at a later date to celebrate Diane’s life.

Diane was beloved by many. In her memory, in lieu of flowers, a donation to Applied Scholastics Spanish Lake of Saint Louis, MO, would echo her life.

7 o’clock yesterday evening Diane was restless. The nurse gave Diane a dose of morphine, her first. She slept peacefully all night and at 5:20 this morning she was quietly gone. Dawn is here with me. Love, John

Diane's remains were taken to the Winn E. Martin gravesite in Clayton, AL and a funeral service held by her children, their spouses and John on July 11th. The text of the service was sent by email.
