Diane was generous beyond measure. Yes, her generosity included funding causes she believed in and funding individuals in need. But her generosity was much more than that. Diane’s generosity was a generosity of spirit, of whole-heartedness, and of love. It was a part of her “being.” It was Diane.
Diane’s most precious gift was the giving of herself. She gave of her strength and resilience. She took all in her arms—as she did literally while serving in a field hospital during the Vietnam War, and then figuratively after that until her death. I had hoped that Diane’s strength and resilience would pull her through the crisis for her life.
Diane put up a gallant fight—until she new the battle was lost. In the end, she gave one final gift, a gift to those who loved her. In her so resolute fashion, in her so-Diane way, she released us from the fight for her life. And in this way, she gave her final gift.

Oh, Diane. We love and miss you. Your humanity was something to behold. You are one of the kindest, most forgiving and generous people I have ever had the privilege to call my friend. With a heart the size of the sky above, you were a leader and empathizer, willing to give the shirt off your back to someone in need. You loved, cherished, and helped your friends and family; you served your country with distinction. To say we need more people like you always among us is understatement in the extreme, especially in these very challenging times.
Worry not about your precious Ruth, my dear, she is a strong woman who will carry on her work in life and greet you joyously at the gate when she is ready. Meanwhile, God bless and keep you, ‘till we meet again.
