Devyn's obituary
Devyn Aleczander Gibson was born on February 24, 2001, in Munster, IN to his loving parents, Tina Jackson-Gibson and Al Gibson, Jr.
Devo, as he was affectionately known, was a shining beacon in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His short journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and a big sense of humor. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for who he was, and for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Even as a child, Devyn loved to make everyone around him smile. Out of his 3 siblings, he was the jokester who didn’t know how to have a serious moment. He enjoyed following his favorite NBA team, the Oklahoma City Thunder and was overjoyed when he finally got a chance to see them play last year.
But, Devyn found his ultimate passion in playing the snare drum. He was in the concert band at Hammond High School where he won numerous awards, including several 1st place awards at ISSMA. Devyn also began his first official job during his junior year in high school at McDonald’s in East Chicago, Indiana. After graduating high school, Devyn continued his life’s journey in 2021 and began working for Harbison Walker International (HWI) in Gary, Indiana. He continued to work at HWI until the time of his passing.
Devyn is survived by his loving parents, Al (Jessica) and Tina, his brother Malcolm, sisters Charizma and Jazmynn (Richard Sr.), and his loving nephew, Richard “RJ” Jr. Devyn was the cherished grandson of Bernard Bowens (Carmen), Rose Gibson, and Dr. Alvin Gibson, Sr (Deborah). He also leaves behind 3 aunts, Charie Jones (Willard), Michelle, and Annette Bryant (Terrell), and a host of loving family, friends, and co-workers who shared in his joyful spirit. He was predeceased by his cousin, Deonte Bryant.
Although Devyn’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. As you continue to worship God up there, Devo, your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
